“So here’s the thing…

Conferences

Last night Jason went to Keegan’s parent/teacher conference by himself. Dev fell asleep, and I didn’t feel like waking the beast. Anyway, he’s doing really well. She said he’s very sweet in class and she never has any problems with him and that “Keegan’s all about getting his work done. He comes in, sits right down, and starts.” However, as they kept talking, they got around to the “he needs to slow down a bit” part of the conversation. See, Keegan’s smart enough to know how to cut corners… y’know…like find the answer to the math problem without showing the work or how he got the right answer, and teachers don’t exactly like that. Plus, his handwriting is pretty bad. They had an assignment this week, she told Jason, where they had to write “2 good sentences” about something that happened in February. Keegan wrote, “We celebrated the 100th day of school and the high school kids came to visit.”
So Mrs. Hartsig says, “that’s really good Keegan. Now you just need your 2nd sentence.”
To which, of course, Keegan replies, “that IS two…100th day of school; kids came to visit.”
“No, you still need one more sentence. That first one just has two ideas in it.”
So my son proceeds to pick up his pencil, ERASE the and, put a period after the word school, and capitalize the word THE. LOL!
After hearing the story from the teacher (who did at least laugh and commend his creativity), Jason says, “Sorry about that…he gets his lazy streak from me.”
