A silver lining
I have this unexplainable need to fit in. I’m sure if I laid down on some psychologist’s couch I’d discover it comes from having divorced parents, or bad childhood friends, or idiot boyfriends, or whatever the reason psychologists are using these days. Anyway, I have this need to feel like I belong to something. But for some reason just “fitting in with God” has never completely satisfied that need. Maybe it’s because He made us to need and want companionship. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t good for Adam to be alone. I mean, he already had God with him, right? And yet He made Adam a helpmate. So where am I going with this? Yesterday was a sad day for me. Marge died 2 years ago and sometimes it still feels like it just happened. But as I was sitting in church yesterday morning, Pastor Charlie came up to us. He’s like the Asst. Pastor in charge of the outreach programs…ushers/greeters, community service, mission trips, etc. Anyway, he walked up to us, shook our hands and said, “I have a question for you. Do you think you’d consider being a greeter on Sundays?” It made me smile like an idiot off and on all day. Sounds silly, yes… but it was just nice (and unusual) to have someone come up to me and say “I’d like you to be apart of something.” And really, what would fit me better than to meet people at the door and say hi and welcome! I’LL GET TO TALK TO STRANGERS!! YAY! LOL Isn’t God awesome?! For so many things…but especially for bringing us to this church. I feel so at home there.

I can’t tell you how happy I am to read this; FBC was the first church for both me and Deb that made us feel “needed” (I almost said welcome, but we’ve certainly felt welcome at other churches), and it’s a big reason why we get up on Sunday morning looking forward to going to church rather than deciding if we feel like getting up.
Praise God for finding a use for your effusiveness.
